Diamond Boutique is the vision of Olivia Hutchison, a creative jeweller and down to earth soul who resides in Canberra. From her humble beginnings as a sole trader, Olivia worked tirelessly to meet the demands of her ever-growing client base. Today, you will find Olivia working away at her shop in Braddon. Hear how Olivia brought her vision to life.

What does Diamond Boutique mean to you?

Diamond Boutique is me! It’s an extension of everything I have done in my life and is a part of who I am.  I often dreamed about what it would be like to create something magical to share with the world, and Diamond Boutique is the result. It is kind of like my firstborn.

What drove you to open your jewellery store?

My willingness to grow and challenge myself was my biggest drive. I wanted to make my mark in the world by creating something special that made people happy. I channelled my love of creating beautiful things and opened Diamond Boutique. The satisfaction I feel from making people happy through my creation is honestly the greatest feeling.

What is the best thing about your job?

I absolutely love working with our customers to bring their visions to life. I love being a part of creating something very sentimental for each individual. The hugs and sometimes tears of joy I receive when people collect their items give me the warm and fuzzies. I also feel like it’s part of my legacy. I am leaving precious pieces of me in the form of jewellery to be loved long after I leave this world.  

What’s your favourite piece of jewellery you own and why?

My engagement ring is by far my favourite piece of jewellery. Even though I have a great collection of jewellery with far more value, it’s the one piece that has the most sentimental value. It’s a symbol of love between my husband and me and the beautiful life we share. It’s very exciting to think that not only will it be loved and worn by me every day, but eventually be passed down as a symbol of a love that once was. I am very sentimental like that.

What’s your favourite gem and why?

This is a hard question for a Gemmologist (gem geek) and a topic I could talk about for ages. There are far too many to choose from and my favourites have changed over the years. Emerald has always been a favourite because green is my favourite colour and it’s my birthstone. Another favourite is paraiba tourmaline because the colour is incredible. Ultimately, I love colour and sparkle and any gemstone produced in Australia. Currently, I’m searching for an Australian yellow diamond to add to my collection, so I think at this point that’s my new favourite.

When you’re not creating jewellery what are you doing?

When I am not busy working away at Diamond Boutique you will find me living my best Mum life. I love spending time with my stepdaughter, son and husband and exploring new places. Now that borders are re-opening all over the world, I am looking forward to travelling again soon. I also love cosying up on the couch with some popcorn and a good movie.
